The Return

I can't believe it's been four years since I blogged. I just searched my old blog, and my last post was August of 2016 (check that out here). Okay well, new year...new goals...new commitments, right? Right! Let's get to it!

I sew pretty much every day, but most of my sewing is completing samples or demos for students. I don't really make time to sew clothing that I want to make unless it's something really quick that will take me only a few hours to complete. Sad, but true. I've decided that in order to continue to enjoy sewing, I must make time to create garments that require concentration and real skill, not being an afterthought when I'm in a crunch for an outfit to wear.

So my project this week was Vogue V1645 "Semi-fitted, jumpsuit (close-fitting through bust) has mock wrap detail, side slant pockets, squared-off armholes, and half self-belt," as described on the envelope. When I picked up the pattern, I liked it, but the structure of the back gave me "Us" vibes (yes, the movie). I knew a completely solid dark color wouldn't have worked for me, so I switched it up a bit. See the image below of the pattern.

MY VERSION

I decided to make the majority of the jumper from a green woven fabric and the faux wrap from printed techno. I found both at a local jobber warehouse, Jomar, in Philadelphia a while back. The printed techno was leftover from another project. The woven fabric is reminiscent of a wool and lycra blend. It feels soft and luxurious. Not bad for $1 per yard! I ran out while cutting and decided to take apart a full skirt I made from it previously to have enough fabric for my jumper. Renew, reuse, and recycle!

I used a bronze grommet and swivel hook to close the belt instead of a belt buckle.

I cut out a size XLG. Both fabrics that I used have stretch to them. I'm not sure that if they didn't, it would have fit well.

I didn't want to take it off. It was so comfortable and screamed Stylish Professional. I'll make this again in black or white for sure.
